Acclaimed keyboardist Andrew North’s newest single, “Satori 89,” finds him in new territory. His third new song in as many months is a sharp departure from March’s brooding “Beneath the Moon.” The track features a heavily chorused electric piano lead playing a twisting melody line that winds through key changes. “I recorded the melody with my right hand and bass part with my left together at the same time because I really wanted to give it an organic feel.” says North. “John Scofield and Charlie Hunter are two of my absolute favorite artists and I wanted to show some of that side of my music in this track.”

The track is named for a flash of insight North had while driving on Vermont’s Interstate 89. “I was coming through Richmond on one of those beautiful summer days, where the landscape is just insanely green, and I just had one of those moments where everything just clicked and made sense. It passed pretty quickly, but the seed for the song was planted. The Buddhist term for a moment like that is “Satori.”
